Description

Through My Eyes: Youth Teaching & Discussion Companion — Facilitator’s Guide is a faith-centered, trauma-sensitive resource designed to help trained adults lead meaningful conversations with young people ages 13–18.

Developed from Dr. Kartaysa Berry’s autobiographical work Through My Eyes, this facilitator’s guide transforms themes of faith, family, choices, boundaries, healing, purpose, relationships, and personal growth into structured youth-development sessions.

The guide provides facilitators with practical teaching points, discussion prompts, workbook activities, reflection exercises, and safety-focused guidance. Young people are encouraged to explore their identity, make thoughtful decisions, recognize healthy and unhealthy boundaries, seek trustworthy support, communicate effectively, take responsibility for their choices, and develop a vision for their future.

Across 13 structured sessions, facilitators can guide youth through topics including family and identity, faith and belonging, difficult choices, grooming and boundaries, healing and self-worth, purpose and calling, emotional expression, accountability, resilience, relationships, preparation for adulthood, and communication between youth and supportive adults.

At the heart of the program is the Press • Pray • Praise framework, along with practical tools such as PAUSE, TELL • TELL • TELL, LIFT, PATH, WAIT, EYES, and the Four R’s.

Designed for churches, mentoring programs, community organizations, and other appropriate educational settings, this guide helps caring adults create a safe environment where young people can reflect, learn, ask questions, and recognize that their past does not have to determine their future.
